What is Math Pentathlon?
An after school club where kids play interactive, problem-solving games that strengthen basic math concepts, develop problem solving skills, and and stimulate creative thinking. Kids gain confidence in a friendly, social atmosphere. To learn more, visit www.mathpentath.org.

How does it work?
Students meet once a week after school (day to be determined by the grade-level chair) for an hour and play five board games. In the Spring, kids will play these games in a tournament against students from other schools.

Who can participate?
Any child in Kindergarten through 5th grade. The limitation is set only by how many parents are willing to help.
Division I — Kindergarten and First Grade Chair & Co-Chair needed
Division II — 2nd and 3rd Grade: Chair Chair & Co-Chair needed
Division III — Chair & Co-Chair needed

Volunteers
Simply put, we must have several volunteers each week in order to hold meetings.  We will cancel specific grade sessions that are short volunteers.  Once club times are established, there will be an online signup form for volunteering.

Lead Volunteer - Teaches the game of concepts.  Coordinates meeting day and time.  Is the main contact for their division.

Wrangler - Keeps track of the kids and ensures they are picked up.

Helpers - Guide groups of four students based on the Lead Volunteer directions.

We support our volunteers - you do not need to be a math whiz to help!

  • Each game box has rule summary sheets for the volunteers

  • Each week, a copy of the teaching materials and game rules are emailed to all the volunteers

  • The volunteers occasionally meet to practice the games
Registration

This is a club completely run by volunteer parents.  The number of participants is limited and a volunteer commitment is not required, but priority is given to those families who can volunteer during the club. Parent volunteers are crucial to the success of the club.

Cost is $50 and all children who register are expected to compete in the tournament TBD in 2020.
